BIO

Szasza Rab is a freelance dancer, choreographer, psychologist, and mother, born in Hungary. In her work, she uses dance to externalize the innermost secrets of the mind. Her pieces and working methods are based on improvisation, letting her work to be honest, playful, and truthful about the subject, with a proposed resolution for the body and mind.

From a young age, she loved to dance, debuting in hip-hop, breakdance, and modern dance performances. She completed her professional studies in contemporary dance, ballet, folk dance, and choreography, at the Budapest Contemporary Dance Academy. She went on to study at the Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance (SEAD), where she advanced her choreography and dance skills. Her interest in deciphering emotions and human behavior led her to study psychology. She received her BA diploma in psychology in 2018, at the University of Pécs, and her MA in social psychology at ELTE, Budapest, in 2020. During her academic years, She was acting and dancing in various plays at the Janus University Theatre.

In addition to her academic and artistic pursuits, Szasza, along with her collaborator, Flora Veres, organized two International Dance Day Festivals in Pécs, Hungary, aiming to connect locals with contemporary dance.

In 2018, she was awarded the Zoltán Imre Performance Grant from the National Cultural Fund for her solo work, "I Speak About It." This performance explored the phases of trauma, particularly focusing on sexual abuse and its processing. Alongside this solo, she wrote her thesis on "Trauma Processing Through Art."

In 2022 she spent 2 weeks of creation with her dancers in Krusce Creative Center, Slovenia. She premiered her work ”Rage” at Mu Theatre in that year. The process and the performance were supported by the National Cultural Fund. The trio grasps the bodily memories of negative events, placing silent rage, anger into its focus. In the same year, she joined the L1 Association, collaborating with its members to present her works on numerous occasions.

Since 2022, she has toured her performances at various events, including L1 Festival, IZP Festival, and SÅ‘t 7 Festival. During this period, she also embraced the role of motherhood. motherhood giving birth to two children.
